SYLLABUS COURSE WORK
SPANISH DANCE INSTITUTE (SDI) AND ALIANZA FLAMENCA
Exam course work from the SDI as well as Alianza Flamenca is incorporated as an adjunct to the existing Academy curriculum, and provides foundation exercises in braceo (carriage of arms), zapateado (footwork), vueltas (turns), palillos (castanets), palmas (hand clapping), and repertoire, which develop the basic technical skills of movement, rhythm, coordination and balance.
SDI exams are not compulsory, but highly recommended as all exam material is simple and represents only material learned in class. The exams provide the student with additional incentive to strive, helping to set personal benchmarks and gain exposure to frank, unbiased assessment at each level of growth.
The exams are held annually in Canberra. Examiners are externally sourced and have no affiliation with the Academy. Students must pay for these exams, which cost around $50 (fee must be confirmed annually). Other expenses for syllabus material include the Student Handbook for each grade and castanets. Students wishing to skip grades to sit for a particular exam grade should
first consult with the Academy Director.
There are 7 Examinable grades.
